ANNOUNCEMENTS
Many thanks to the 23 people who shared the gift of singing Christmas Carols one evening last week. Our efforts were appreciated by seniors at SCOC, Ina Grafton Home and in their homes. Our thanks also to Eva and Frank who once again extended their gift of welcome and hospitality to the carollers.
A sincere thank you to the following children for helping to ice the cookies which we enjoyed following our Christmas Eve Service: Sadie & Dylan Alexander; Liam Beer; Shelby Hardwick; Kailyn Horst; Kai & Kieran Lockyer. Your work was appreciated.
TREASURER’S REPORT – Those who want to make end of year donations dated 2011, can do so in the offering today. Offerings for 2011 cannot be accepted after that.
Tim’s Sabbatical Costs – $1430 was raised to help cover these costs.
CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL- We have a few spots left to teach Children’s Sunday School during Church for the new year. A long term commitment is not required. We are looking for anyone who has a willingness to serve in this area. There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board. Thanks, Jennifer Hayward.
Council is pleased to announce that Pastor “Ash” of the Freedom Gospel congregation will be renting the office on the main floor. In the past, that room has seen service as the Outreach Worker’s office, a Sunday School room, the library, storage closets, and sometimes a bedroom for visiting TOOLS groups. However, for at least the next year it will be Pastor Ash’s office and “off limits” to the Danforth congregation except for whatever materials we did not manage to store elsewhere.
Council also thanks Vic Guerin and Marg Beer for serving on the liaison committee for the rental arrangements with the Freedom Gospel congregation. If you’re wondering where the library materials went, they know! Danforth gains an increase in rental income, while Pastor Ash obtains a much improved office space. We look forward to the continued growth and success of our sister congregation.
Our Annual General Meeting will be held Jan. 29, 2012 after the morning service and a finger-food potluck lunch. Please reserve the first half of that afternoon for this important business meeting.
As always, REPORTs are due from the various standing committees. To have the amalgamated report in everyone’s hands by Sunday Jan. 22, Carolyn needs to have an electronic copy (ie a Word document) in her in-box by Sunday Jan. 15th.
Congratulations to the committee chair who already submitted her report before fleeing Toronto’s wintry weather!
One agenda item for this meeting will be some discussion of Vacation Bible Camp for 2012.
Although “new business from the floor” will be welcome, it would help if you tell Mike DeHaan about it earlier so we can all be prepared to discuss it.
NOTE: DMC’s Annual General Meeting is open to anyone who attends here, regardless of formal membership status. As always, first-time guests are especially welcome to the potluck.
Monday, January 9, 7:30 pm. Women’s group. A host is needed. Please sign up on the bulletin board if you would like to host, in your home or at the church.
Saturday, January 14, 9:00 am. Men’s Breakfast. All males welcome.
We will be doing the evening program at SCOC on Sunday Jan.15th. Everyone is welcome to join the Danforth Tabernacle Choir for this event.
Have you laid your bricks into the House of Peace for Humanity? Building began on Peace Sunday, November 5, and is ongoing. Bring your ideas of concrete ways we can contribute to a culture of peace, one idea on each block. Bricks, pens and glue are available by the house. We are aiming for 100 good ideas.
