DANFORTH ANNOUNCEMENTS

 On Thursday evening, Nov 4, about a dozen Mennonites from the GTA got together to talk about the various ways we interact with Muslim and Jewish friends.  We told stories of good conversations, joint service projects, and growing relationships with Muslims and Jews in our neighbourhoods and workplaces.  Another such gathering of Mennonites is planned for January.  Are you interested?  Is friendship with people of other faiths important to you?  Talk to Mary Groh, Tim Reimer, or Dalton Jantzi.

 Women’s group will meet Monday, November 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Anne Reesor’s home, 24 Ashdale  Ave. All women are welcome for a time of fellowship.

 Out of the Cold Program This Friday, November  12, 6:40 pm at Eastminster United Church, 310 Danforth Avenue. Come with your voices and instruments to provide music for the homeless while they eat their dinner. Speak with Dalton Jantzi if you have any questions.

Sunday, November 14 at 10:00am during the Sunday School hour the adults will meet in the auditorium for a time of singing.

A second special congregational meeting re DMC MVS (Mennonite Voluntary Service) will be held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 14. This meeting will feature the break-out discussions to evaluate and consider future directions. We again will have a finger food potluck lunch first, and everyone is invited to enjoy lunch. (The first meeting, on Oct. 3, did successfully address some important short-term concerns).

 SCOC Peppermint Fair – November 20, 10:00am – 2:00 pm  The Nursing Home at SCOC will have its own table at this years   Fair. For those of you who have any canning or crafts that they might like to donate to this table, please contact Sharon Wilkinson.

On Saturday, December 11th we will be holding our annual Christmas Dinner.  Please sign up (the sign up sheet will be on the bulletin board on November 14th) to let us know if you will be coming and also if you would be willing to help with the clean up.  We hope you will be able to join us for a wonderful evening.  Jennifer, Garry, Vic, Mary Jane, Erma & Bob.

Our current deficit for the year is now $8,000.

Our givings needed to be 9% higher all year to meet the expenses.

Enjoy teaching children?  Rehoboth Evangelical Church is looking for a volunteer to teach Sunday School on Sunday afternoons from 4:30 to 5:30pm.  These are Ethiopian children who are energetic Canadians who speak English!  (Their parents speak English and Amharic.  The Rehoboth Evangelical Church is a member of Mennonite Church Eastern Canada (Emerging Church) and they meet at the Danforth Baptist Church, near Danforth and Chester. 

Also, would you be interested in tutoring two Ethiopian children who recently came to Canada?  You could help them (a sixteen year old boy and a ten year old girl) with English and school work.  If you are interested in either of these opportunities please contact Tim Reimer.

This event is cosponsored by Toronto Chinese Mennonite Church. Alan Rudy-Froese, the resource person for this event, is passionate about preaching, has preached and studied preaching for years.  To register call Tim Reimer.

Share a gift of education.

Church Council would like to thank Barb Bryson for completing her term of service on Gift Discernment Committee and Erma Martin for replacing Barb.

As the Gift Discerment Committee (Margaret Amanatides, Marg Beer and Erma Martin), we would like to inform the church that we have recently arranged for some changes in the church committees for this year.  We would like to thank Dave Ringer for his work on Worship Committee and his willingness to serve the MVS Committee. We also want to thank John Epp for his service on Worship Committee and he will be continuing with Adult Education. We welcome Linda DeHaan and Susan Schultz for being willing to join the Worship Committee. 

GTA Mennonite Fall Festival Drama – Saturday, October 23, 7pm at Toronto Chinese Mennonite Church, 1038 Woodbine Ave. This year Mennonite churches in the GTA will celebrate our fall conference with a drama, “Who Do You Say That I Am?” an original play by John Wideman, in which stories of our congregations have been woven into a play!  Come be inspired and enjoy the play and fellowship!

WMCEC LADIES FALL ENRICHMENT DAY –Saturday, October 23,  10:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (registration and coffee at 9:45) Bethany Mennonite Church, Virgil, ON. Theme: “Haiti: Building in Hope”  Special Music by Niagara Bethany Handbell Choir (a.m.) Speakers – Donna Thiessen (a.m.), who had arrived at the airport in Haiti as the earthquake struck and Leah Reesor (p.m.) who has been in Haiti numerous times and led an August 2010 MCC Haiti Work and Learn Team. What can we learn from 12 Angry Men?  On Sunday, October 24th at 2 pm, Hidden Acres Mennonite Camp, Silver Lake Mennonite Camp and Fraser Lake Camp invite you to the St. Jacob’s Playhouse Theatre to watch the classic drama.  A catered reception and facilitated discussion on the restorative justice and peace themes brought to light by drama will follow.  Any proceeds raised at the event will go to the camp’s Camper Subsidy funds.  $60 per ticket.  Tickets must be ordered by Thursday October 14th.  RSVP@willowgrove.ca or 905.642.2127
