DANFORTH ANNOUNCEMENTS

 Tim Reimer will be away on vacation from August 6th to 23rd.  During this time, if matters of Pastoral concern arise, please call the Elders, whose numbers are listed above.

On Sunday Aug. 22, we will worship at Willowgrove (11737 McCowan Road, Stouffville). There will be no service at the church. Over the next two weeks, please offer rides or ask for rides if you need transportation.

 The children at Vacation Bible School raised $500 for their project.  $500 was sent to MCC for the “Schools for Peace in IRAQ” program.

 A very special Second Century!!    To celebrate Violet Godfrey’s 100th Birthday.   Everyone is invited to St. Clair O’Connor  on Saturday,  August 7, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, in the meeting room. Best Wishes only.

Sunday, August 22, worship at Willowgrove (11737 McCowan Road, Stouffville). There will be no service at the church. Please start offering rides or asking for rides! We will have a potluck lunch.

 Beginning a New Century Together – join us at our retreat at Fraser Lake on Sept. 10 – 12.  Marilyn Zehr will be our resource person for Friday & Saturday.  Registration deadline is August 15th.  Please submit your registration forms & registration fees either in person to Jon Beer or Kim Bowman, or in their mailboxes.

We have been invited to meet with MCEC leadership and with other GTA Cluster leaders on Tuesday Sept. 21 at 7pm at Hagerman Mennonite Church. The agenda should cover: (1) MCEC’s purpose and vision; (2) priorities for allocation of resources; and (3) how to ensure financial support for MCEC ministries. We need to send our list of delegates by Sept. 7. Please confirm with Mike DeHaan by Sunday Sept. 5th.

WIDER CHURCH AND COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

 Five on the Floor is giving a farewell concert at St. Jacob’s Church Theatre on Thursday August 26, at 7:30 pm with special guests “House of Doc”.  This is a fundraising event for the Toronto Mennonite Theological Centre and tickets are $50 with a $30 receipt.  Contact 519-885-0220 x24223 or fwmartin@uwaterloo.ca for advanced ticket sales.

The Abner Martin Music Scholarship ($3,500 value last year) is awarded annually by Menno Singers to one student who:  will be enrolled in a full-time music major or minor program at the undergraduate or graduate level in 2010-11;  is affiliated with an MCEC congregation;  and has demonstrated involvement and proficiency in musical activities in church and community.  Application deadline is September 15, 2010.  For more information and/or an application form contact Lewis Brubacher at lbrubacher@sympatico.ca.  More details at http://www.mennofoundation.ca/learning/scholarships.

If you cannot attend the concert, contact MCRS and buy a ticket for a refugee claimant to provide them with the opportunity to attend this great event. Tickets from MCRS at (519) 571-1912 or  refugee@mcrs.ca.

 Meet God on the Mountain -Vacation Bible Camp is happening this week, July 12 -16!  9:00 am – 11:45 am. Please remember to pray for the leaders, volunteers and the children attending.

On Thursday evening, July 15 at 7:00 pm, the children will have an opportunity to share with you and other friends and family some of the songs, dramas, and fun they have had.  Everyone is invited to join them.

From Sunday, July 4  through September 5, 2010, our regular services will begin at 10:30am and there will be no Sunday School. There will be no services on September 12, as we will be at an out-of-town retreat. Regular services will resume Sept. 19, 2010: Sunday School at 10:00 am and worship at 11:00am.
