A proposal for the future existence of Mennonite Church Canada will be discussed and voted on at the Annual Spring Gathering of Mennonite Church Eastern Canada on April 28, 2017.  Danforth is sending two delegates to this Gathering (Dalton J. and Tim R.).

On April 23, we as a congregation will have a chance to tell our delegates how to vote.

WIDER CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mennonites from all around Mennonite Church Eastern Canada will be gathering this spring (Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29) in Oakville.  We will gather to worship, to talk with one another, and to learn about what various congregations are involved in.

The GTA Cluster of Mennonite Churches will be acting as hosts.  You will have a chance to help out with volunteering in a number of ways.

Have you heard the Bluegrass group “Rescue Junction”?  They’ll be playing on Friday night at the MCEC Annual Church Gathering (The Meeting House, Oakville) April 28, 2017.

 The New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale Plant Tent is looking for donations of plants: perennials, succulents, house plants, native, berries, shrubs, and annuals. We would love your potted plants, labelled with name if possible and mention the colour if it has a bloom.  10th Annual Run for Relief May 27th at 8:00 am at the New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale

Come out for some exercise and work up an appetite before enjoying all the great food at the Relief Sale! This fun event includes a 5k Run and a 2k Run/Walk. Paddle the Grand Fundraiser for Silver Lake Mennonite Camp, Saturday May 13: Silver Lake supplies the canoe, lifejackets and paddles and you enjoy a 1.5 hour late afternoon paddle through some of Waterloo Region’s most beautiful countryside from Inverhaugh to West Montrose. Hidden Acres Mennonite Camp and Retreat Centre is seeking an inspirational and committed person or couple for the newly created position of Facilities and Environmental Stewardship Director. Guided by the camp’s mission statement, the FES Director will live on site and bring practical maintenance and organizational skills and a broad vision for creation care to camp life and operations beginning in Fall 2017. Pilgrimage for Indigenous Rights
A Walk from Kitchener to Ottawa from April 23 to May 14

On Thursday April 27 the Pilgrimage for Indigenous Rights passes through Toronto. Mennonite Church Canada Indigenous Relations and CPT collaborate in this 3 week, 600 km journey, to discuss the significance of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples at this time for Canada. You are invited to join the walkers, share the way, and hear about the hope for justice and reconciliation.

Thursday, April 27 – opportunities to join the walkers:

9:00 am – depart St Margaret’s Anglican Church, New Toronto, 156 Sixth St, Toronto, ON M8V 3A5

11:00 am – bring your lunch and join the walk at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 344, 1395 Lake Shore Blvd West, Toronto, ON, M6K 3C1

2:00 pm – Future site of Anishinawbe Health Toronto (Mill Street, east of Cherry, Distillery District) Hear about the plans for the future of Indigenous-led healthcare in Toronto.

4:00 pm – arrive at Toronto Chinese Mennonite Church 1038 Woodbine Ave, Toronto, ON, M4C 4C4

5:30 pm – potluck supper & socializing at Toronto Chinese Mennonite Church – If you bring food please remember that some walkers have shrimp & citrus allergies and lactose intolerance.
