Call to worship
Leader: Who comes in the name of God? Step into the light and be known.
People: We are coming, through darkness and fear. We come into the light by the power of God.
Leader: People of God, God has heard your cries and is opening a way for you.
People: We are here, through darkness and fear. We come into the light of this day by the power of God.
Leader: You are here, and God is here. What will you do?
People: Together we will worship our God.
God of compassion and consequence, some days it’s hard to face who we are. We like to be in control, to know where we are going.
Relying on someone else, even you, is hard.
We get impatient and find things to criticize. Some of us even like to complain. Glossing over past hardships is easier than admitting that we needed your help, and still do.
We don’t want to see how our attitudes and actions make things worse. We are sorry. Forgive our ingratitude.
Grant us the courage to face the truth.
Words of assurance
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.

The Mennonite Centre Heritage Club presents… A Complicated History: Mennonites and the Holocaust in Ukraine Dr. Aileen Friesen Wednesday, March 14th , 2018 7:30 pm Upon receiving her doctorate at the University of Alberta, Aileen Friesen held post-doctoral positions at the Universities of Illinois and Winnipeg. Currently, she holds the J. Winfield Fretz Fellowhip at Conrad Grebel University College. Her doctoral thesis on the subject of the role of Russian Orthodoxy in the colonization of Siberia is forthcoming with University of Toronto Press. In her presentation to the Heritage Club, Dr. Friesen will refer to new archival sources to re-evaluate the actions of Mennonites during the Holocaust in Ukraine. While many Mennonites in Ukraine expressed their horror at the treatment of their neighbours after Axis troops occupied their land, there were some who became complicit in the administrative structures that led to the expoitation and even murder of Jewish, Roma and Ukrainian citizens.
Work for Peace. Stop paying for war! Use Conscience Canada’s Peace Tax Return http://www.consciencecanada.ca
It is tax time and as a Peace Church with a history of Conscientious Objection to war, we have the opportunity to express to our government our objection to war. We not only do not want our bodies to be conscripted but in this day and age of machine war, we also do not want our taxes to be conscripted.
Conscience Canada – CC, has provided a device called the ‘Peace Tax Return’ – PTR, whereby you can sign on to one of two declarations – Option A – a simple declaration with no taxes diverted, and Option B – a declaration with the military portion or a symbolic portion withheld and diverted to a Peace Tax Fund in Trust administered by Conscience Canada. An electronic PTR can be found on the CC website at http://www.consciencecanada.ca
It is quite easy to use at the time you submit your tax return.
Also the latest Conscience Canada newsletter is available – online and on paper. The paper version also contains a paper version of the PTR. Murray L., a board member of Conscience Canada can answer questions you may have and can provide assistance with the PTR.
