TRC Call to Prayer
We pray that all levels of government will creatively and compassionately implement community sanctions that will allow for the goal of restoration to occur. We ask that Aboriginal communities will be strengthened in order to prevent such a high rate of imprisonment and that those who are imprisoned will have opportunity to experience programs focused on restorative justice. We ask for humility in the decision-makers, so that they will be willing to view justice from another perspective and recognize that Aboriginal cultures have important contributions to make in this conversation. Ultimately, Lord, we ask that justice in our penal system will reflect Your heart. Amen

Let’s Walk the Talk of Reconciliation with Bill C-262 As part of Mennonite Church Canada’s support of Truth and Reconciliation activities such as the 'Walk for Indigenous Rights' in April/May, they have sent postcards for us to sign and mail to our MP’s to promote passage of Private Member’s Bill C-262. This bill calls on the Government of Canada to harmonize Canadian law with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). Canada has adopted UNDRIP but it is not yet law. This bill comes up for Second Reading in the House of Commons later this month. DMC Outreach and Services Committee and Church Council have approved the individual signing and sending of these postcards to our MP’s with messages of support for Bill C-262. There will be a table set up in the lower lobby this morning with postcards and suggested messages to send to your MP. (It will be possible for us to look up your MP’s name from your postal code). Signed postcards can be left at the table and will be mailed. Murray L. for Outreach & Services Committee

Who We Support
In November/December Church Council will be reviewing the financial support in our budget for charities and organizations beyond our congregation. Currently our core support is for St. Clair O’Connor Community and Mennonite Conference of Eastern Canada but we also support Mennonite Central Committee, New Life Centre, Lazarus Rising, Willowgrove, and Christian Peacemaker Teams. Council is inviting input from the congregation in this process. Is there a charity or organization that reflects our values and identity that you feel our church should support financially? Please contact a council member by the end of October with your suggestion. They are Tim R., Mary Jane G., Donna A., Roger H. and Don B.
Treasurer’s Report: $8,638 was received in offerings in September. $8,216 is needed each month to meet our budget. Our operating deficit to the end of September is $5,339.
Special Sunday School Teachers and Helpers Lunch. Sunday, Oct22nd, immediately following worship. This could be for you! If you are on the Christian Ed Committee, we hope you can make it. If you have volunteered to teach Sunday School, we hope you can make it. If you would like to help in some small way, once a month or more, then this is definitely for you! We'll have lunch together, but we will also go over the teaching schedule, so we all know what Sunday we are on to teach, we'll show everyone the lesson materials that we will be using, and where they are stored, we'll explain how we want to have great faith formation times for each child in the church, and even inspire new kids to come, to make it fun and inspiring. And we'll encourage one another to follow through on each little commitment that we can offer, every little gift is so important. Thanks for coming to this lunch! May the God of Light make all our little "gardens" grow full of delightful learning! See you there! This lunch is planned by Becky B., Christian Ed Chair, and Tim R., Pastor.
