Community Programs

The following are community groups and organizations that meet in our building and whose values resonate with ours.

Theatre of the beat

Theatre of the Beat (TOTB) is a Canadian touring theatre company & a company in residence at Danforth Mennonite Church. TOTB works to catalyze conversations on social justice and its intersection with the beliefs of the communities in which we find ourselves. Since 2011, Theatre of the Beat has been staging change across North America (and The Netherlands) by creating original social justice theatre and workshops for underrepresented populations. Through an immersive cultural exchange of grassroots theatre, hospitality, and philosophy, the company empowers its audience to work towards a just future. Theatre of the Beat has performed over 400 shows in theatres, festivals, churches, universities, and prisons throughout (almost) every Canadian province (we are still waiting on you Newfoundland!), The United States and The Netherlands. You can catch us at our annual Emerging Producers Festival, hosted here, at Danforth Mennonite Church.

dismas

Two years ago Danforth opened its doors and provided a home for our monthly fellowship gatherings. Dismas Fellowship is an island of sanity and welcome for ex-prisoners and friends from various faith communities who come together to experience community without judgment after prison. One Friday a month we share a meal together, then form a circle of sharing ending with a prayer singing “Jesus , Remember Me,” modelled after the Good Thief who is known in legend as St. Dismas. Thank you, Danforth, for giving us a home. Come sometime!
