ladies walking group

On Tuesday, October 14 at 10:30 am (weather permitting), we will meet at Biidaasige Park, pronounced “bee-daw-si-geh” and meaning “sunlight shining toward us” in Anishinaabemowin, is located near Cherry Street on the island of Ookwemin Minising, meaning “place of the black cherry trees.” The park celebrates waterway restoration and reconciliation.

The park is located at 51 Commissioners St, Toronto.

Parking in the area is limited. There is a small, temporary lot at 11 Munition St. with 120 spaces. There is some on-street parking at certain hours on Old Cherry Street, Villiers Street and Munition Street. Read the signs to avoid ticketing.

Let’s carpool – if you can drive, please let Bonnie know and she will put it on the Monday email when she confirms the place and time.

If you need to be picked up or dropped off, please check in with fellow walkers or email Bonnie.

Announcement from the

DMC Outreach and Services Committee

Thanksgiving Sunday is October 12, 2025.  DMC Outreach and Services Committee encourage all of us to give as we can for those in need at this time of year.

Collection boxes will be set up in the foyer starting Saturday September 27.   Non-perishable food items are requested for two food banks with whom we have a connection  - Nourish East End Food Bank at 1470 Gerrard St. at Glen Rhodes United Church, just west of Coxwell Ave.; Teasdale Community Food Bank, 40 Teasdale Ave., near Crescent Town apartments at Danforth Ave. and Victoria Park Ave.

Most needed non-perishable food items are:
- Canned soups/canned pastas (e.g. spaghetti)
- Dried pastas
- Canned fish – e.g. tuna, salmon, sardines
- Canned meat - Spam, canned hams, other canned meats
- Boxed Mac’n cheese – e.g. Kraft Dinner
- Soap in bars

Cash Donations:
We would also encourage Danforth members to give cash/cheque/E-transfers (at any time of year) through Church Treasurer Roger Horst, earmarked for Nourish East End Foodbank and/or Teasdale Community Food Bank. The reasoning is that food banks need cash to purchase items they do not receive from Daily Bread Foodbank and Second Harvest. They are often short of meat protein and/or milk, so the Food Bank Director purchases these items from cash donations.
