Call to Worship

Leader:  Do not be afraid, Jesus is coming!

People:  Jesus is coming to parties where people celebrate.

Leader:  Jesus is coming to hillsides where people listen.

People:  Jesus is coming to sickrooms where people suffer.

Leader: Jesus is coming to an occupied territory where people long to be free.

People:  Today we join with crowds cheering for the heir of David on the road to Jerusalem.

Leader:  Our hearts cry, “Hosanna,” as we meet Jesus in worship today.

All:  “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.”

Confession

Leader:   Lord, we are isolated and alone; our failures are visible for all to see.  Our days pour out like sand, our years fade and are gone.

We are afraid to hope. We confess to the Lord . . .

(silent prayer)

Leader:   Lord, we trust in you. Redeem us now, we pray.

All:          To you, Lord, we commit all our hope and all our worship. Amen.

Benediction

Leader:   Love God, you who are God’s holy people,

All:          for God’s love endures forever.

Leader:   Praise God, and give thanks,

All:          for God’s love endures forever.

Leader:   Expect God, and welcome God’s grace,

All:          for God’s love endures forever.

Scripture passage

Matthew 21:1-11 (CEB)

Entry into Jerusalem
21 When they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus gave two disciples a task. He said to them, “Go into the village over there. As soon as you enter, you will find a donkey tied up and a colt with it. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that their master needs them.” He sent them off right away. Now this happened to fulfill what the prophet said, Say to Daughter Zion, “Look, your king is coming to you, humble and riding on a donkey, and on a colt the donkey’s offspring.” The disciples went and did just as Jesus had ordered them. They brought the donkey and the colt and laid their clothes on them. Then he sat on them.

Now a large crowd spread their clothes on the road. Others cut palm branches off the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds in front of him and behind him shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” 10 And when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up. “Who is this?” they asked. 11 The crowds answered, “It’s the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Philippians 2:5-11 (CEB)

Adopt the attitude that was in Christ Jesus:
Though he was in the form of God, he did not consider being equal with God something to exploit.
But he emptied himself by taking the form of a slave and by becoming like human beings.
When he found himself in the form of a human,
he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Therefore, God highly honored him and gave him a name above all names,
10  so that at the name of Jesus everyone in heaven, on earth, and under the earth might bow
11  and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Explore Toronto’s Buildings & Sites

Each May, Doors Open Toronto invites the public to explore the city’s most-loved buildings and sites, free of charge. The event provides rare access to buildings that are not usually open to the public and free access to sites that would usually charge an admission fee. Since its inception in 2000, it has attracted more than two million visits to nearly 700 unique locations and remains the largest event of its kind in Canada.

It started with a simple comment from Ray…  “The dove would look good if you had a light shining on it from inside”.

That got Roger into the electrical room checking the timer and going up into the attic to change the light bulbs.  As the building manager, I am pleased to have the lights on at night for our guests and renters.  I’m hoping that this will also reduce the vandalism on our property.

Thanks Roger!
