Treasurer’s Report: We received $5,787 in offerings in July. We are now well below our 2024 offering budget but due mostly to the absence of a paid Pastor we still have a $23,942 operating surplus to the end of July. Other income and expenses are relatively as expected, except for a substantial increase to our insurance premiums.

In July there was $100 donated to the Benevolence Fund and there is now $651 in the fund. Our goal, as stated in the policy, is to have a minimum of $2,000 in the fund for future situations of need.

Donations to Danforth Mennonite Church are always welcome through Sunday morning offerings, mailed cheques or email transfers at dmmc2174@gmail.com. Please contact Roger H. if you would like to join the monthly giving program which happens through bank transfers on the 15th of each month. Thank you to all for your generous support for the work of our church.

The next

WIDER CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dear Heritage Club Supporters:
Summer Greetings!
Here is some exciting information on three upcoming Heritage Events that may be of interest to you:
1)      Saengerfest: A centenary Mennonite Song Festival, is happening on Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 54 Benton Street, Kitchener, ON N2G 3H2.
Please join in to commemorate the centenary of the 1920s Mennonite immigration to Ontario from settlements in present-day Russia and Ukraine. The singing and music will be led by Mark Diller Harder, joined by various other community contributors.
For more details, see https://uwaterloo.ca/grebel/events/saengerfest

2)      Montreal River Alternative Service Camp Historical Plaque to be installed!

The Mennonite Historical Society of Ontario and the Ontario Heritage Trust will install a commemorative historical plaque at the site of the WW2 Alternative Service (Conscientious Objector) Camp at Montreal River, just north of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

A number of you will either be related to, or acquainted with, Mennonite men who chose Alternative Service during the Second World War and served at Montreal River or other similar camps across Canada.

All are invited to the official unveiling of the plaque on Thursday, September 26 at 4:00 pm at Conrad Grebel University College.

Bus Trip to Sault Ste. Marie/Montreal River.  The next day, September 27, the MHSO has arranged for two buses to go from Waterloo to Montreal River for the installation of the plaque on September 28.   Overnight accommodation has been set aside for bus participants for Friday, September 27 so they can take part in the Plaque installation the next day at the Montreal River site.  The buses will then return to Waterloo

For further details (bus costs and overnight accommodation costs), and to reserve a spot on this trip (accommodation deadline is August 27), go to https://www.mhso.org/content/montreal-river-alternative-service-camp-bus-trip

3)      Heritage Club event at St. Clair O’Connor on Wednesday September 25 at 7:30 pm where Mennonite academic and author, Hildi Froese Tiessen, will be presenting and reading from her recent book: On Mennonite/s Writing. More information to come.
